BBC’s commercial spaces include Bridgeport Place, which is home to the BBC Kinsman office, Cornucopia place, BBC’s community radio station WOVU 95.9FM, and the Cleveland Public Library Garden Valley branch. BBC owns and manages BOXSPOT in the Kinsman neighborhood, and Arbor Park Place, a shopping plaza in the Central community.

Beginning in 2004, a new owner, the Coral Company, operated Shaker Square for the next eighteen years, adding new signage and bringing in businesses that reflected the Square’s location astride neighborhoods with increasingly divergent incomes. Popular restaurants such as Fire, Zanzibar, Yours Truly, Balaton, and Edwin’s became a more important part of the retail mix, while Dave’s Supermarket and CVS Pharmacy ensured that the Square remained a vital resource for surrounding neighborhoods. The North Union Farmers Market further enlivened Shaker Square every Saturday during the growing season.

Despite its many bright spots, Shaker Square during the COVID-19 pandemic precipitated a crisis that brought a district to the brink of foreclosure. In August 2022, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, its subsidiary New Village Corporation, and Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. bought Shaker Square from The Coral Company. Since then, the team has been meeting with merchants, doing repairs, and completing an assessment of improvements to the property.

As its centennial approaches, Shaker Square remains an essential space where the city and suburbs meet.

Arbor Park Place

BBC acquired and renovated Arbor Park Place, a 39,000 sq. ft. shopping center in 2016.


The BoxSpot consists of a series of recycled shipping containers arranged as an open-air market within a newly created community space. BoxSpot provides an affordable alternative to brick-and-mortar establishments, with lower rent, lower operating costs, and less expensive tenant buildout. Starting a business is easier for neighborhood residents when barriers to entry are lowered.

The containers are retrofitted as shops and kitchens for entrepreneurs to sell their wares or provide services. The BoxSpot functions like a shopping center, where a number of diverse businesses clustered on a single site create a shopping destination for customers.

Bridgeport Place

Bridgeport Place, an exciting $2.2 million new-construction development project at Kinsman Road and East 72nd Street, consists of 13,200 square feet of new retail and commercial space that accommodates the offices of Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc., as well as Bridgeport Cafe and Cornucopia Place. The commercial center also includes the Cleveland Public Library Garden Valley Branch and WOVU 95.9FM.

Bridgeport Place complements other activity that has recently been completed or is currently being undertaken in the Garden Valley neighborhood, including the Heritage View Homes, Bridgeport (Colfax Road) Model Block, the new Anton Grdina School, new-construction homes on Minnie Avenue and Colfax Road as part of East Central Place, Kinsman Road resurfacing, the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority’s new headquarters, and the Urban Agriculture Innovation Zone.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting for Bridgeport Place took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. More than 200 city officials, professionals from community development and real estate development-related fields, and neighborhood residents received tours of BBC’s office and the Cleveland Public Library Garden Valley Branch and enjoyed a program that featured Mayor Frank Jackson, Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, and BBC Executive Director Timothy Tramble.
