Who We Are
Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. (BBC) is a non-profit community development corporation named for three civic leaders who made a profound impact on our community, Lonnie Burten, James Bell, and Charles V. Carr. Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. has been empowering residents and revitalizing blighted and underserved communities in Cleveland’s Central and Kinsman neighborhoods since 1990. BBC has now extended its service area to include the Buckeye-Shaker Square and Buckeye-Woodhill neighborhoods.

RESIDENT RESOURCES
At BBC, we offer our residents various resources, with a focus on housing and community programs. Our goal is to foster knowledge of homeownership, wellness, youth opportunities, and more within the community.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
BBC focuses its efforts on economic development in two main areas: business development and commercial development. We pride ourselves on our work, uniting new and old business owners with industry knowledge, resources, funding, and more. In addition, our commercial development offers those same business owners the possibility of moving into their own spaces, furthering our local economy and providing jobs to the communities.

Neighborhood Impact
Gwendolyn Garth, Local Artist
Gwendolyn Garth, a self-employed freelance artist, is from the Cedar Central neighborhood. Garth is the founder of Kings & Queens of Art, a grassroots artist collective that focuses on promoting art from presently and formerly incarcerated artists.
Garth operated an art Gallery in BBC’s Bridgeport Place between 2015-2017.
…I can be a catalyst in changing my neighborhood. My intent for the art gallery was to be a warm, inviting place. As soon as they [ community residents] come in they would be inspired.
Darrell Dobson, Resident of 23 Years
Darrell Dobson has lived in the Central/Kinsman neighborhood for 23 years. A passionate cycling advocate, Mr. Dobson has taken his passion for urban biking to a new level as a Healthy Eating, Active Living Ambassador at BBC. During the summer of 2018, Mr. Dobson organized community bike rides to five of Cleveland’s iconic institutions for neighborhood children:
The vision for Central Biking was to collect a group of kids and take them around Cleveland so that they can see the wonders of Cleveland…I hope that the children learn something from this and tell their other peers about the wonders of Cleveland.
