BBC established Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, sites in Central and Kinsman in 2015.

The idea is simple. Low- and moderate-income families can have their federal income taxes prepared free of charge by a trained volunteer.  As a result, families are able to avoid paying costly tax preparation and filing fees as well as refund anticipation loans. Families ultimately keep more of their refund.

BBC’s VITA sites were located at Cornucopia Place, 7201 Kinsman Road in Kinsman and Central Promise Neighborhood Learning Lab, 2617 Central Avenue in Central.

737 Returns were filed at BBC’s VITA sites under the leadership of site coordinator Omelia Thornton. Families having taxes prepared at BBC’s VITA sites received $928,060 in refunds!

We’d like to thank Enterprise Community Partners, PNC Bank, Third Federal Savings and Loan, Citizen’s Bank, and Sisters of Charity for financially supporting our successful first year of the VITA program.
