What is compost?

Compost consists of organic materials derived from plants and some animal material that has been decomposed. The process of composting is simple and is practiced by individuals in their homes, and by industries and cities through contracts with composting businesses.

Rich in nutrients, compost is used in gardens, landscaping, horticulture, and agriculture. The compost itself is beneficial for the land in many ways, including as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer to add vital acids, and as a natural pesticide for soil.   This is a great way to decrease food scraps and yard waste from being put in landfills and improve soils around your home and gardens.

Steps to receive free compost bin:

  1. 1.   Contact your local Community Development Corporation (Information provided above).
  2. 2.   Register and attend a Compost Seminar and Bin Sale Session (At the end of the session you will have to sign off saying you have completed it).
