This message is from our partners at Lighthouse, Inc. and the Heaventrain, who are seeking volunteers to help distribute food, toys, and other items to less-fortunate families of Ward 5. This year, BBC staff collaborated with Lighthouse’s Andy Batten to repair porches for eight residents of Colfax Avenue and deliver frozen turkeys to twenty low-income senior citizen households prior to Thanksgiving. You can learn more about Lighthouse, Inc. and the Heaventrain, whose mission is to build meaningful and lasting relationships with children and their families in Cleveland’s central area that equip and empower them with the resources and opportunities to break the cycle of poverty,

Happy Holidays,

It is that time of year again and we are gearing up for our Heaventrain Christmas on December 20th.  I know it is late notice, but it seems that with times being so hard, things have come together later than usual.  Finding 1200 gifts, 1200 jars of candy, 1200 hamburgers, and all the rest of this can be a challenge, but it has all worked out for another year of fun and excitement.

We have had so many people over the last year tell me that they want to come and see what we do and what we are all about.  And I have had many folks say they can’t do a full day so this year we are changing things up.  We would like to invite you to attend one of three Heaventrain introductions that Saturday, they are only 90 minutes each and will share an introduction, a site visit, and give you the chance to hand out gifts at one of our 5 sites.  We only have 45 slots, and almost 15 are taken already.

We are opening this up to our friends and partners to see what it is we do on that Blue Bus.  Heaventrain is something that you have to see to believe and in this format you can take it all in, and be on your way in a little over an hour.  You are welcome to bring friends and family and of course you can stay as long as you like, but please consider attending. This is not a fund raising event and we will not ask you for money.  We just want to get feedback on what you see and show you what happens on Saturdays in Central Cleveland. You will never forget the experience and it is our hope that this day will make your Christmas all the more bright.

Please RSVP with Bonnie at [email protected] or check out the www.shareyourchristmas.com.  It is going to be a fun filled day and we want to share it with our friends.  We will have a reception area with warm drinks and refreshments before and after the event.

All the best,

Andy Batten
