The Cleveland Colectivo, a Cleveland-based “giving circle”, will be hosting “Pitch for Change” on Thursday, February 23^rd from 6:00-8:30pm at Shaker Launch House (3558 Lee Road Shaker Heights, Ohio 44120).

The “Pitch for Change” event will help the Cleveland Colectivo identify grantees for the 2012 grant funding cycle.  Prospective grantees will have two minutes to pitch their innovative idea or project to Cleveland Colectivo members and other attendees.  Attendees at the event will get to vote on the best presentation that night and the winner will receive the donations collected at the door along with an invitation to join round two of the Cleveland Colectivo grant funding process.

For a suggested $5 donation at the door, all attendees (whether presenting or listening) will get a vote to determine the best “fast pitch” presentation of the evening.

Anyone who is interesting in pitching an idea should go to http://www.clevelandcolectivo.org to review the instructions for presenters.  Sign up to present will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will begin at 6:00pm and end at 6:30pm.  We will hear from the first 30 presenters who sign up that evening.  We will consider hosting a second evening of presentations if we can’t accommodate all potential presenters.

The Cleveland Colectivo is an organization of Greater Cleveland residents coming together to strengthen our community through collective investments that identify and nurture innovative projects.  Group members pool their donations, and then distribute grants once a year to fund imaginative and worthwhile projects that benefit Cleveland.

Green Corps is a seasonal work-study program for high school youth in Cleveland. Students work to maintain Learning Farms, harvest and sell produce at markets, and help produce Ripe from Downtown Salsa.

Throughout the season, these youth learn life skills, agriculture and horticulture skills, business skills, and environmental stewardship. Students work together to learn how to make their own lives and their communities better.

You can take action and make a difference in the world!

The Neighborhood Leadership Development
Program (NLDP) is a free 12 session, 8 month program that provides individuals the tools
needed to become more leaders in their neighborhoods. These tools are in the
form of knowledge, experience and a network of dedicated Clevelanders. The NLDP
is looking to select 16 Clevelanders for the 2011-2012 Cohort. The new class
begins in September.

If you haven’t, The American Heart Associated is trying to determine which of three Cleveland Neighborhoods would be the best location for Jamie Oliver’s kitchen.  They will be surveying residents of Central Neighborhood at the Cleveland Public Library’s Sterling Branch. They will not be asking residents about their health, but will be asking if they would take advantage of a kitchen, if it were located in their neighborhood, to learn how to prepare healthy food at home.
