Friday, July 11th, 2008

This week, more than fifty volunteers from Circleville, Ohio came to Colfax Road to repair porches for eight residents of Colfax Road. Work was performed in conjunction with BBC’s Bridgeport Model Block program, and was completed at no charge to the homeowners. Lighthouse, Inc. (the Heaventrain), Ward 5 Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, BBC, and a core group of committed community members helped make the event possible.

Tom Beres of WKYC Channel 3 was moved by the work of the volunteers and filmed an excellent story that aired on the 6pm and 7pm newscasts on Tuesday, July 8. Click on the video below to watch the story.

City Year Volunteers Make a Difference in Ward 5

Friday, May 16th, 2008

On May 14 and 15, volunteers from City Year took to the streets to help a senior citizen in need. As part of its 100 Hours of Power event, over forty young persons participated in the painting of a Cape Cod-style home on Colfax Road. The project was performed in concert with BBC’s strategy for its Bridgeport Model Block, and paint and supplies were furnished through the City of Cleveland Paint Program.

City Year will also work with BBC to paint a second house in the Kingsbury Model Block, which encompasses Fuller and Easton Avenues between East 93rd Street and Kingsbury Boulevard, in June.

BBC sincerely thanks City Year for all of its great work and commitment to our neighborhoods.

This is the first in a series of exciting volunteer projects to take place in our Model Blocks this summer. Stay tuned for more information.
