Watch the New Documentary 13th

Friday March 24th, 6:00 pm, at the Antioch Baptist Church, 8869 Cedar Avenue, there will be a screening of the Oscar nominated documentary “13th,” directed by Ava DuVernay.  Centered on race in the U.S., criminal justice system, the film is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which outlawed slavery (unless as punishment for a crime).  The film argues that slavery is being effectively perpetuated through mass incarceration today.  The film runs l hr. 40 minutes and is rated TV-MA).  Following the screening there will be a guided discussion including panelists and audience members.  Light refreshments provided.  No charge.  For additional information, contact Rev. 12-hour Read-A-Thon at the Garden Valley Neigh. House

Join  Garden Valley Neighborhood House on March 18,2017 for the annual 12-hr Read-a-thon.  The Garden Valley Neighborhood House is located at 7100 Kinsman Rd Cleveland, OH 44104

  • Participants may sign up for a 15 minute time slots available from 7am to 7pm.  You can choose to bring your own reading materials or use what is on site.
  • In addition to the Read-a-thon, the NASW Student Club at Cleveland State is hosting a book drive until March 10th.  The drive is for new or gently used books that will be donated to Garden Valley Neighborhood House to  promote literacy in the Garden Valley community.

Community Building and Activism through the Eyes of East Cleveland Women

The Case Western Reserve University Social Justice Institute is inviting the community to join a free discussion, Community Building and Activism through the Eyes of East Cleveland Women, 3:30 p.m., Dec. 10. The event is open to all to become part of the conversation and to share their stories.   Misty Luminais, PhD, and Rhonda Y. Williams, PhD, will lead the discussion, which will feature related video shorts. The East Cleveland Public Library, 14101 Euclid Avenue, will host the event in its lower auditorium.
