High School Coding Camp

High school Coding Camp allows students to learn the concepts of computer programming and encourages them to think about complex ideas and concepts rationally and logically. Each week the camp is held at a different higher educational institution throughout the region. Students will identify the dates and locations of their choice when applying.

Camps: This year there will be eight C# camps (one of which will be all girls) and two Cyber Security Camps.

  • Grade Band: High School, rising 9th-12th
  • Camps: High School Coding Camp-C# (no previous programming is required)
  • High School Coding Camp-Cyber Security (new!) (prerequisite-completed high school Coding Camp C# and/ or have knowledge of other C languages)

Camp Locations, Host Schools And Dates:

Camp runs from June-August 2017,Full days, 8 am-5 pm

RITE partners with TECH CORPS to offer summer coding camps, hosted by regional colleges and universities.

C# Camps

  • The University of Akron: June 5-9
  • Cuyahoga Community College-Western Campus: June 12-16
  • Cleveland State University: July 17-21 (all girls)
  • Baldwin Wallace University: July 31-August 4
  • Lorain County Community College: August 7-11

Cyber Security Camp

  • Lakeland Community College: June 26-30
  • Cleveland State University: July 24-28

12-hour Read-A-Thon at the Garden Valley Neigh. House

Join  Garden Valley Neighborhood House on March 18,2017 for the annual 12-hr Read-a-thon.  The Garden Valley Neighborhood House is located at 7100 Kinsman Rd Cleveland, OH 44104

  • Participants may sign up for a 15 minute time slots available from 7am to 7pm.  You can choose to bring your own reading materials or use what is on site.
  • In addition to the Read-a-thon, the NASW Student Club at Cleveland State is hosting a book drive until March 10th.  The drive is for new or gently used books that will be donated to Garden Valley Neighborhood House to  promote literacy in the Garden Valley community.

Be a part of Cleveland’s revitalization. Do you know any artists who would like to have their work on display in Downtown Cleveland? Apply for the LAND studio’s artist competition.LAND studio, with the generous support of the Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation, is requesting qualifications from artists or teams of artists interested in producing temporary works of public art in downtown Cleveland on Public Square, Mall B, East 3rd Street between Superior and Rockwell Avenues, or in nearby publicly accessible locations.

LAND studio, with the generous support of the Char and Chuck Fowler Family Foundation, is requesting qualifications from artists or teams of artists interested in producing temporary works of public art in downtown Cleveland on Public Square, Mall B, East 3rd Street between Superior and Rockwell Avenues, or in nearby publicly accessible locations.

Three to six artworks will be installed for varying times between the spring of 2017 and the end of 2018. Artworks may consist of sculpture, interactive installations, or other formats. Artists will be expected to work with LAND studio staff and curatorial advisors to assure that artworks will be accessible, durable, and in keeping with the goals and intentions of the program.

Eligibility

This call is open to all qualified artists or teams thereof, 18 and older and living or working within 350 miles of Public Square (see map on page 4). Greater Cleveland artists and artists with ties to the region are strongly encouraged to participate.

Location

The funding is intended to provide temporary public artwork on Public Square and The Mall or nearby publicly accessible locations in downtown Cleveland.

Requirements

Interested artists are required to submit a one-page letter of interest concisely describing their qualifications and explaining why they would be interested in working on this project. Within the one-page letter of interest, artists should indicate what approach they would take to the project.

Additionally, artists should provide a link to an online portfolio or image sheet with no fewer than five and no more than 20 images of previous or relevant work labeled with location and date. Some, but not all, of the images can be of concepts that were not or have not yet been produced.

An up-to-date résumé or CV must also be supplied. All submission materials must be in PDF.

DEADLINE
Submission materials must meet the requirements set out above and be submitted to vreddy@land-studio.org by no later than 5 p.m., EST, on Monday, November 28th, 2016.

Budget

The program will fund three to six public artworks, deployed at various times and with some overlap, during 2017 and 2018. Each of the artworks will have an all-inclusive budget of up to $40,000. No additional funds are available to cover travel or other ancillary expenses.

Selection Committee

Artists’ qualifications will be reviewed by a curatorial advisory panel and LAND studio staff, and discussions or negotiations with artists may take place before artists are hired through the program to design and produce artworks.

The selection-process timeline will be as follows:

■ October 2016 Release of Request for Qualifications (RFQ)

■ November 28th, 2016 RFQ Submissions due

■ December 2016 Selected shortlist of artists notified

■ Dec. 2016 – Feb. 2017 Selected artists develop sketch-level concepts for committee to review

■ Feb. 2017 Final artist(s) selected for first round of installation(s)

■ June 2017 Installation of first artwork(s)
