How Do I Become a Habitat Partner Family?

Partner Family applicants must:

Attend an introductory Homeowner Application Session

Complete a full, signed application with a description of current living situation

Be willing to live in the City of Cleveland – Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity builds in the neighborhoods of Cleveland within the City limits.

Applications are only given during Homeowner Application Session.


Habitat homeowners are called Partner Families because the program is a unique partnership involving selection, training in home construction and finances, mortgage guidance, home maintenance, and volunteering to help other families.

Partner Family applicants participate in a rigorous evaluation process and are selected based on three criteria:

 Need for Adequate Housing

Families must be currently living in substandard housing. Substandard housing includes overcrowded living quarters and unsafe or hazardous conditions. Families must notbe homeowners currently.

Willingness to Partner

Families must be willing to partner with Habitat, investing up to 500 hours of what is called “sweat equity” in volunteering, home construction and trainings including budgeting, financial literacy, and routine home maintenance.

 Ability to Pay

The homeowner’s income must be between 30-60% of the area median income.  Selected families musthave the ability to pay a no-profit, no interest mortgage consistently over the life of the mortgage. The family must not have excessive debt, have declared bankruptcy within the past 3 years and have had stable income for the last 12 months.


Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity will be holding a Homeowner Application Session at the administrative offices at:

2110 West 110th Street, Door A

Cleveland, Ohio 44102

On Saturday, June 23rd at 11:00am

 

The orientation session will last approximately one hour.

Please be prompt, those arriving late will be asked to attend a future session.

The applicant must attend the entire session to receive an application.
