Feeling a little “green” lately? One of the ways residents of the Central and Kinsman neighborhoods can positively impact the local environment is to install a rain barrel at their home!
Rain barrels work by diverting rain water from rooftops and gutters to a barrel that collects it to be recycled. Rain water is best for watering gardens, plants, and lawns because it is rich in nitrogen and other nutrients not found in tap water. Plus, reusing it saves money on your water bills. Rain barrels also keep water from overtaxing waste water and sewers, thus helping to prevent discharge of sewage into Lake Erie.
For additional information or to be placed on the list to receive a free rain barrel, contact Jeffrey Sugalski at BBC at (216) 341-1455. Please note that barrels and accompanying materials will be distributed to residents of Central and Kinsman only on a first-come, first-served basis, so reserve your spot today!
BBC is hosting our first Active Neighbors for Healthy Neighborhoods Campaign. This 12 week campaign will encourage residents of Central and Kinsman to get out and get active while meeting their neighbors. The Campaign will “Kick-off” with The Block Party on Saturday June 4, 2011 at Bridgeport Place (7201 Kinsman Rd) from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. This event will give a preview of the exciting activities planned for the coming weeks including cooking demonstrations, exercise opportunities, health screenings, and active video games.
Original Harvest Church is sponsoring the City-Wide Walk Against Violence beginning at 12:00 pm just down the street and we will encourage our attendees to participate in the walk and then join us afterwards for food, music and healthy fun. Admission is free and participants will also receive t-shirts and other give-a-ways and have the opportunity to win raffle prizes such as bikes, Nintendo Wii systems, George Forman grills, and more.
On Thursdays The Block Party continues with more outdoor exercise, healthy cooking demonstrations, food, music and prizes. The campaign is sponsored by Neighborhood Progress, Inc., Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, Well Care and Medical Mutual of Ohio.
