LIVING HISTORY TOUR 2010 AT WOODLAND CEMETERY

6901 WOODLAND AVENUE,

CLEVELAND, OHIO  44104

SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2010

1:00 p.m.:   Woodland Cemetery Self-Guided Living History Tour

From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a Self-Guided Living History Tour to visit graves and learn the history of some of Woodland’s famous and not-so-famous people.

Those spotlighted represent all walks of life, various ethnic and racial backgrounds, social activists, war veterans, early entrepreneurs, lawyers, judges, politicians, and some of Cleveland’s early “power couples.”  All influenced and shaped Cleveland and, in many cases, national policies.  Actors or family descendants will be portraying/representing some of Woodland’s residents.

Cemeteries were originally built as parks and gardens for people to enjoy quiet strolls and picnics.  Visitors are invited to do the same on June 27.  Pamphlets giving brief histories and locations of graves will be available to learn who and why these people are important to Cleveland.

This is a fundraiser to benefit the Woodland Cemetery Foundation of Cleveland, Ohio.  A donation of $10 per adult or $25 for a family pass which includes two adults and three children; each additional child under the age of 18 is $5.

Meet local Cleveland author Casey Daniels who once applied for a job as a tour guide in a cemetery. She didn’t get it, but she did get the idea for Pepper Martin, the star of her mystery series, who investigates cases for the ghosts in the Cleveland cemetery where she works. Casey is a history lover who enjoys walking through cemeteries and finds inspiration in the stones, art and architecture. All five of her Pepper Martin books are available: Don of the Dead, The Chick and the Dead, Tombs of Endearment, Night of the Loving.  Casey Daniels will be at Woodland Cemetery on June 27th to sign her books.
