Meet BBC’s New Staff, Part I

BBC is growing, and has welcomed several new staff members aboard this fall.

Tiffany Allen and Efouah Nkroumah are graduate students in their first year of the Master of Science in Applied Social Sciences from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences. Tiffany recently attained her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University, and is a licensed social worker. She resides in the Hough neighborhood of Cleveland.

Efouah Nkroumah moved to Cleveland from Ghana, Africa in 2002. Originally a television reporter for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, she holds a BA in Journalism and Promotional Communications from Cleveland State University.

Marcelina Sladewska is a undergraduate student at Cleveland State University pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies. A resident of Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood, Marcelina works with BBC’s real estate development staff on everything from research to designing brochures utilizing her graphic design background.

BBC also has three Americorps VISTAs assisting us in carrying out our mission in the Ward 5 communities. Larry LaPrade, who lives in the Kinsman Union neighborhood, sought an opportunity to make a substantial impact in his community and in Cleveland. earned his Bachelor of Business in Legal Studies at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, and previously interned with Cleveland Hope, a nonprofit agency that works with volunteers to paint the houses of senior citizens, and Youth Works in St. Louis, Missouri. Larry also has volunteered with many different groups, including his church.

Elmore Spain previously worked with BBC as an undergraduate intern from Cleveland State University. However, he enjoyed his experience so much that he sought to work in Ward 5 for an additional year while completing his Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies at CSU. Elmore, a resident of Hough, assisted with housing repair programs at BBC, but has since began working exclusively with Cleveland Central Weed & Seed.

Ward 5 Residents – Apply to have your house painted for FREE

Is your family in need of having your house painted and light home repairs, but you do not have the resources or capacity to have work performed?

Rebuilding Together Cleveland, a nonprofit organization that has recruited volunteers to beautify homes in the city’s neighborhoods, is holding its fourteenth annual Rebuilding Day on Saturday, June 27, 2009. The group recruits volunteer groups from corporations and neighborhoods to paint and repair pre-selected homes in one day.

Rebuilding Together’s primary focus is on individuals and families on a limited income, particularly the elderly and disabled. However, the organization is also seeking families in which one or more member serves in the military.
